Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) is a cannabis extract developed by medical marijuana activist (and our personal hero) Rick Simpson. It is highly concentrated extract of the cannabis plant shown repeatedly to help with a wide variety of health issues and diseases. The process involves extracting cannabinoids, primarily THC although many other cannabinoids are also extracted- including CBD, using a solvent like alcohol or ethanol.

RSO has gained popularity due to Rick Simpson’s advocacy for its potential medicinal benefits, especially for cancer patients. Over the years, RSO has been used successfully by people fighting many different illnesses. Operation RSO’s Director, Kristen Stanek-Klawitter, has studied and used RSO with patients fighting various forms of illness over many years, and has found RSO to be incredibly beneficial for so many different illnesses and symptoms.

RSO has been shown to help reduce and eliminate tumors of all kinds and we continue to find more and more benefits for patients using RSO every day. It makes an incredible alternative to prescription painkillers and pharmaceuticals and can significantly reduce pain and inflammation in the body. RSO can help eliminate insomnia and issues around sleeping- many of our patients can share that they’ve never slept as well as they have while taking RSO. It also offers remarkable relief from chemotherapy and radiation side effects like nausea and vomiting and in typical cannabis fashion, RSO truly helps users get the “munchies” and can significantly increase a patient’s appetite. Please note that in our experience, RSO can lower blood pressure. It is often used as a tool to help those with high blood pressure wean off pharmaceuticals (blood pressure medication). We highly recommend taking blood pressure readings while using RSO to monitor levels.

Don’t get scammed! Below is a list of questions you should ALWAYS ask before you accept RSO from any source. If a source you’re considering can’t or won’t answer these questions, we highly recommend finding a different source. Where and how was the cannabis flower grown?

It’s so important to know your farmer and where your flower was grown. We’ve found that RSO made with SUNGROWN cannabis makes the most potent and effective RSO. While it can be made with indoor cannabis flower, sungrown flower provides a more robust cannabinoid and terpene profile.

The farming practices used to grow the cannabis can significantly impact the flower. We encourage patients to seek flower grown organically and regeneratively whenever possible. It’s important to know what fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides were used. We only make RSO with completely clean cannabis flower- no pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers allowed. We also encourage users to seek out the test results from the flower or RSO. Legal and licensed cultivators and cannabis manufacturers are required to have a COA on each strain and product they have on the market, and test results should be easy to find on their websites. Please note that recently California has had many issues with cannabis test results being falsified, and we reiterate the importance of knowing your farmer and how the flower you get is grown!

What solvents were used to make the RSO?

Operation RSO makes RSO with only organic cane alcohol. We then distill the oil, removing the alcohol from the finished RSO product. However, several methods and different solvents can be used to make RSO, and not all of them are safe to consume. Be sure you know what solvent was used to make your RSO and if and how it was removed.

What strains were used to make the RSO?

Depending on your needs and why you’re using RSO, the strain used to make it may be very important. You should be able to ask what strains were used to make the RSO and possibly request RSO made with a specific strain.
